Pine Cone brought one of our very own musicians Arthel “Doc” Watson to Raleigh. Doc Watson hails from Deep Gap NC and has been playing Bluegrass and Folk music for better than 50 years. Along with Doc was David Holt and Doc’s grandson Richard Watson. The men took stage at The Meymandi Concert Hall on a chilly Saturday night to bring us Hills of Home and really added a degree of warmth to the hall. David Holt an amazing musician himself alternated through the banjo, guitar, resonating guitar, the bones and some hambone knee slap. Doc as always was awesome and sprinkled in some great jokes and wisdom throughout his music. This was my first time seeing Doc live and I truly enjoyed the show. Doc and his collaborators took us on a tour through several musical genres from Bluegrass and Americana to Blues and Gospel with even a cover of Workin Man’s Blues by one of country’s greats Merle Haggard. As always Pine Cone did an outstanding job putting everything together.
