I caught the Countdown Quartet at the Berkley Cafe when the played The Shadow Benefit.
The band consists of Dave Wright (vocals/trombone/piano/organ) Steve Grothmann (upright & electric bass), Peter Lamb (saxophone), David Andrews (guitars/banjo), and Dan Hall (drums/percussion). Their style of music is multi-fold but imagine adding jazz to funk to rock and roll to old school rhythm and blues along with a health dose of attitude and that will give you an idea of  their style. Truthfully the best way to understand what I am talking about is to see them live. This group of fellas put on an excellent show and energized the crowd. The sax and horn meshed well and contrasted with the two guitars and drums. Not what I would call a conventional band but I think that is the exact reason it jived so well.
